April 4th-10th Is National Dental Hygienists Week
From April 4th-10th, celebrate Dental Hygienists Week! Celebrated annually every April, National Dental Hygienists Week (NDHW) is an important part of Oral Health Month. The goal of NDHW is to reinforce the importance of the dental hygiene profession and to help Canadians better understand a dental hygienist’s vital role in oral health care.
National Dental Hygienists Week (NDHW), is sponsored by the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA). Each year, there is a set theme. The theme for this year’s NDHW is “Oral Health for Total Health” to remind Canadians that proper care of teeth and gums has a positive impact on our overall health, and all aspects of our lives.
‘Put Your Purple On!’ Campaign
Put Your Purple On! encourages people to display their pride in dental hygiene. The colour purple is the official colour of dental professionals, and has been since 1897 when lilac was chosen for the emblem of the National Association of Dental Faculties. Purple has always been the trim colour for grad caps and gowns of dental hygiene graduates, and symbolizes compassion, purpose, and inspiration.
