Pediatric Dentistry

Regular visits to the dentist helps create good oral health habits in kids.

What is Pediatric Dental Care?

Regular Dental Visits

Bringing your child to their first dentist appointment is suggested about 6 months after their first tooth starts peeking through their gums. This gets them used to and comfortable with seeing the dentist regularly from a young age.

Early Prevention & Intervention

A big part of those initial dental visits with your young child is that it allows your dental team to inspect their mouth, ensuring that everything looks as expected. Your dentist is trained to identify potential trouble spots before they become major issues.

Our Approach to Pediatric Dental Care

At Saskatoon Dental Group, we take great pride in treating generations of families – from grandparents, aunts, uncles, parents…all the way down to the youngest family members. We are grateful for the trust you have in use to look after your loved ones and believe that it is important to build trust between dentist and patient….even if the patient can’t quite speak in full sentences yet!

Our approach to treating children starts with that same trust we have with you along with our commitment to creating a positive experience. Making their visits enjoyable (and maybe even fun!) goes a long way in establishing good life long oral health habits.

We do have many tools in our toolkit to work with children and make sure they feel safe and comfortable including sedation if required.  We promise to take excellent care of your children and to take the time to explain their dental needs with you so that you can make the most informed decision for their treatment needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I prepare my child for their visit?

We suggest you speak about the trip the dentist in a positive and reassuring way. Another handy tip is to role play where you are the dentist inspecting their mouth with pretend tools and take turns where they are the dentist and you are the patient. This creates an understanding of what to expect and can help increase their comfort level.

Help! We need a mouthguard that fits!

You’ve come to the right place! We can take an impression and make a mouth guard that fits just right and most importantly, protects that beautiful smile!

Do you offer sedation dentistry for children?

We do have a variety of options when it comes to treating our patients – young and old. We would make a recommendation for mild sedation administered at our office if required and ensure you understand all options presented to you.

My child needs orthodontic work, do you do braces or invisalign?

At Saskatoon Dental Group we work regularly in consultation with other medial experts as required by the needs of our patients. We don’t do braces in our office, however, we do provide orthodontic recommendations as needed. Our office is an Invisalign treatement provider and we can asses if that is an option for your child based on their unique situation.
