Saskatoon Dental Group is a locally owned, full-scale Saskatoon dental clinic offering general dentistry services. Below we talk about the Canadian Dental Care Plan and what you need to know.

What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (the Plan), launched in December 2023, supersedes the Canada Dental Benefit, marking a pivotal step in the budgetary landscape. Backed by a substantial government commitment, the Plan aims to ensure universal dental and oral health care access.

The Canada Dental Benefit (CDB) is:

  • a benefit that helps parents and guardians who earn an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000
  • a direct, tax-free benefit payment
  • for children under 12 who do not have dental insurance

Open for application now until June 30, 2024.

 By June 2024, the new Plan will be available to Canadians under 18, persons with disabilities, and seniors with an annual adjusted family net income under $90,000. In 2025, the Plan should cover all Canadians with an annual adjusted family net income under $90,000 who do not have access to private dental insurance.

Who Is Covered?

The interim Canada Dental Benefit is intended to help lower dental costs for eligible families earning less than $90,000 annually. Parents and guardians may be eligible if they pay for dental care for a child under 12 years old who does not have access to a private dental insurance plan.

To be eligible for the benefit, applicants must meet specific criteria, such as:

  • Not have access to a private dental care insurance;
  • Have an adjusted family net income under $90,000;
  • Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes;
  • Have filed an income tax return in the previous year.

How To Apply For The Canadian Dental Care Plan

Children aged under 12 who meet the criteria may be eligible for the current temporary solution managed by the Canada Revenue Agency. This interim benefit came into effect on December 1, 2022, and is scheduled to conclude on June 30, 2024.

For other eligible individuals, the application process for the CDCP will be rolled out in stages. Invitation letters will be dispatched to those whose adjusted family net income falls below $90,000, following the schedule outlined below. These letters will contain a unique application code along with detailed instructions on how to proceed with the application.
